Victorian Points Test Calculator

Estimate your VPT points for Victorian subclass 190 or 491 nomination and explore priority occupations.

VPT points are not federal SkillSelect points. The VPT ranks Registrations of Interest (ROIs) and has no fixed pass mark. A score does not guarantee an invitation, nomination or visa.

How Victoria chooses applicants

If your occupation is eligible, you can submit a Registration of Interest (ROI) for Victorian nomination. Victoria ranks ROIs using the Victorian Points Test (VPT). Your ROI is considered through both pathways below:

  1. 1. Most competitive

In each invitation round, Victoria invites the highest-scoring ROIs across all eligible occupations in the pool.

  2. 2. Priority industry

Victoria also invites the highest-scoring ROIs within each priority industry or subgroup to help fill critical skills shortages. Check the priority occupation list below. Your occupation does not have to be on that list to be considered through the most-competitive pathway, provided it is eligible.

  • There is no fixed VPT pass mark. Your chance depends on how your score compares with others in the pool at that round and how many nomination places are available. A score alone cannot tell you whether you will be invited.
  • Federal points are separate. You still need at least 65 federal SkillSelect points and must meet both the Australian Government’s visa requirements and Victoria’s nomination requirements for your chosen 190 or 491 visa.
  • No invitation or nomination is guaranteed. Personal circumstances, such as your age or an expiring visa or supporting document, do not give you priority.

Read Victoria’s official invitation process.

1. Your points factors

You must be aged 18–44. Applicants outside this age range are ineligible.

What do Competent, Proficient and Superior English mean?

These are Home Affairs English levels. Choose the highest level for which you meet the evidence requirements. For test results, you must meet the minimum in each skill—not just your overall score.

Common test examples — minimum scores for tests taken on or after 7 August 2025
LevelIELTS Academic or General Training: each skillPTE Academic: listening / reading / writing / speaking
Competent647 / 48 / 51 / 54
Proficient758 / 59 / 69 / 76
Superior869 / 70 / 85 / 88

Competent English can also be shown through passport evidence: you must be a citizen of, and hold a valid passport issued by, Canada, New Zealand, the Republic of Ireland, the United Kingdom or the United States. This does not by itself establish Proficient or Superior English.

Took your test before 7 August 2025? Different score tables apply, including different PTE thresholds. Use the official page for your level to check the correct test-date table, validity period and visa-specific evidence rules. Other approved tests are also listed there; fully at-home English tests are not accepted.

Skill level reflects how complex an occupation’s tasks are and the education, training and experience normally needed to do them. It classifies the occupation—not your personal qualifications or ability. Select your occupation’s listed ANZSCO skill level, not your highest qualification. ABS explanation · Check your occupation. Priority status and visa eligibility are separate.

2. Partner skills

You receive 0 VPT partner points if you are single, have an Australian partner, or do not meet all three partner-skill requirements. Ten federal points for being single are not VPT partner points.

3. Victorian annual earnings

Not currently employed? You receive 0 earnings points. Otherwise, use the official earnings guide to check qualifying employment, what income to include and the location rules for your visa, including regional requirements for 491.

2026-27 priority industries and occupations

ROIs may be invited through the most-competitive pathway across eligible occupations or the priority-industry pathway. Not appearing here does not establish ineligibility. Priority status does not add a separate points bonus for the main applicant.

Can I predict whether I will be invited?

No. A total alone cannot establish your rank against the current ROI pool. There is no fixed VPT pass mark and no invitation guarantee. Federal visa eligibility and Victorian nomination requirements must be met separately.
